These six sacred abodes of Murugan are mentioned in Tamil Sangam literature, Thirumurugatrupadai, written by Nakkeerar and in Tiruppuga?, written by Arunagirinathar. The six abodes are Thiruparankundram, Tiruchendur, Palani, Swamimalai, Thiruthani, and Pazhamudircholai.
